The American Range in a Seattle kitchen

Case Study · American Range Oven Repair · Seattle, WA
The call: the oven on a six-burner American Range gas range in a Seattle kitchen was taking longer than usual to preheat, and it was making noise while it ran. With the oven floor out, we found the bake burner had corroded and burned through next to its flame ports. We replaced the bake burner and the bake igniter. Real photos from the job below.
What happened
The complaint
This American Range is a six-burner gas range with a convection bake switch and a blue oven door. Its factory test label is dated March 2014. The oven had started taking longer to preheat, and it was making noise while it ran.
The diagnosis
We removed the oven floor panel to reach the bake burner and the igniter at the base of the oven. The burner tube had corroded and burned through right next to its flame ports.
The fix
We replaced the bake burner and the bake igniter, then lit the oven to check the work: the igniter glowed, the burner lit, and the new burner held a steady blue flame along its full length. The repair carries our standard 90-day parts and labor warranty.

Questions
On this Seattle range, the bake burner had corroded and burned through next to its flame ports, and we replaced it along with the bake igniter. A weakening igniter is another common cause: on gas ovens with a glowing hot-surface igniter, the gas valve only opens once the igniter is hot enough, so a tired igniter delays ignition.
