GE washer not spinning in Lynnwood: a failed inverter board.

This GE front-load washer in Lynnwood would start a cycle, run for a few minutes, then stop and show “End.” Fill and drain worked, but in the spin test the drum never reached high speed. The inverter board, which drives the motor, had failed. We replaced the inverter board assembly and ran a full cycle to confirm. Real photos from the job below.

What happened

From a GE washer that wouldn’t spin to a full cycle again

The complaint

The homeowner’s GE GFW850SSN0WW front-load washer would start a cycle normally, then stop after a few minutes and show “End” on the display. The laundry came out unfinished.

The diagnosis

The washer had several error codes stored. We ran its service tests: water fill and drain both passed, but in the spin test the drum never got up to high speed. The inverter board, the control that powers the direct-drive motor, wasn’t driving the motor correctly.

The fix

We ordered and installed a new inverter board assembly, then ran the washer through a full cycle, including high-speed spin. It finished normally. The repair carries our 90-day warranty.

Common GE washer problems

Why is my GE front-load washer not spinning?

There are several possible causes: a door lock that isn’t engaging, water that isn’t draining, the motor, or the inverter board that drives the motor. Fill, drain and spin tests narrow it down. On this Lynnwood GE, fill and drain passed but the drum never reached high speed, and the fix was a new inverter board.

GE washer stops mid-cycle and shows “End”?

That means the washer ended the cycle early, usually because it detected a fault, and it often leaves an error code stored. On this job several codes were stored, and the spin test showed the motor wasn’t being driven up to speed. The cause was the inverter board.

What does the inverter board do on a GE washer?

On a direct-drive front-load washer like this GE, the inverter board controls the motor: it powers it and sets its speed for washing and spinning. When it fails, the washer can fill and drain normally but can’t spin the drum properly.
