Liebherr freezer repair in Seattle: a CBS 2062 that stopped freezing.

The call: the freezer on a Liebherr CBS 2062 French-door refrigerator in a Seattle kitchen had stopped cooling. This model runs two separate sealed systems, one for the refrigerator and one for the freezer, each with its own compressor. The freezer’s system had a refrigerant leak, and we replaced its compressor and heat exchanger. The repair has now run past its 1-year warranty with no callbacks. Real photos from the job below.

What happened

From a warm freezer to a new compressor

The complaint

The freezer section of a Liebherr CBS 2062 had stopped cooling. It’s a stainless French-door refrigerator-freezer with NoFrost and BioFresh, made in Austria; the rating plate is dated September 2012 and lists R134a refrigerant.

The diagnosis

Liebherr builds this model with two independent sealed systems: the plate lists a separate R134a charge for the freezer (121 g) and the refrigerator (122 g), and each side has its own compressor. We put refrigeration gauges on the system to read it directly and traced the problem to the freezer’s sealed system: it had a refrigerant leak.

The fix

We replaced the freezer compressor and the heat exchanger, brazed the new parts into the sealed system, and recharged it with R134a. The repair carried our 1-year parts and labor warranty on Liebherr work, and it has run past that year with no callbacks.

Questions

Liebherr freezer repair in Seattle: FAQ

Why is my Liebherr freezer not cooling when the fridge still works?

On dual-system Liebherr models like this CBS 2062, the refrigerator and freezer each have their own sealed system, compressor, and refrigerant charge, so one side can fail while the other keeps running. On this Seattle job, the freezer’s system had a refrigerant leak and needed a new compressor and heat exchanger.

Can a Liebherr compressor be replaced, or do I need a new refrigerator?

It can be replaced. This 2012 CBS 2062 got a new freezer compressor and heat exchanger instead of being replaced, and it has run past its 1-year repair warranty with no callbacks. Whether it’s worth it depends on the unit’s age and overall condition; see our repair-or-replace guide for how to weigh it.

How much does a Liebherr compressor replacement cost?

It depends on the model and what else in the sealed system needs work. We diagnose the exact cause on-site first, then give a clear price before any repair begins.

Common Liebherr freezer problems

Liebherr freezer not cooling at all?

It can come from the sealed system, like this CBS 2062, which had a refrigerant leak and needed a new compressor and heat exchanger, or from the electronics: on a Liebherr CS 2060 in Lake Forest Park, a freezer that stopped working properly needed a new main power board. We test before recommending a repair.

How do you tell a compressor problem from an electronic one?

We read the sealed system with refrigeration gauges and test the compressor and control electronics electrically. A failed board is a parts swap; a sealed system problem like this one means opening the refrigerant lines and replacing major components.
