Four things to check before calling
Some "broken" ice makers are simply switched off or starved of water. These checks are safe for any homeowner and can save you a service call.
Is the ice maker switched on?
On many models the ice maker has its own on/off control. If yours has a wire shut-off arm (like the one in the photo below), make sure it isn't stuck in the raised, "off" position.
Is the water turned on?
Built-in units are fed by a supply line with a shutoff valve, often under the sink or behind the unit's lower grille. After remodels or plumbing work, it's easy to leave it closed.
Is the water filter overdue?
A clogged filter restricts water flow, which often shows up as small or hollow cubes before the ice stops entirely. If your unit has a filter and it hasn't been changed in a long time, start there.
Is the freezer actually cold?

Diagnosis
Why the cause matters more than the symptom
"No ice" on a Sub-Zero can come from several different parts, and each one calls for a different repair. The ice maker needs water delivered through an inlet valve and a fill tube, a cold enough freezer to freeze it, and a working ice maker module to harvest the cubes into the bin.
When any one of those fails, the result at the door looks the same: an empty bin. A water inlet valve that no longer opens, a fill tube that has frozen shut, a failed ice maker module, or a freezer that isn't holding temperature can all be behind it. Replacing the ice maker when the real fault is the water valve — or the cooling system — means paying twice.
That's why we test the water supply, the valve, the ice maker, and the freezer's cooling before recommending a repair. On the 26-year-old Sub-Zero 700BFI in Woodinville, the freezer had stopped cooling from a refrigerant leak. The ice maker came out so the sealed system could be rebuilt with a new genuine compressor and evaporator, then went back in — and the unit has run properly since.

Sub-Zero ice maker not making ice, but the freezer is cold?
Start with the simple checks above: the ice maker's on/off control or shut-off arm, the water supply valve, and the water filter. If all three are fine, the usual suspects are a water inlet valve that no longer opens, a fill tube that has frozen shut, or a failed ice maker module. Each needs a different repair, so we test before replacing anything.
Ice cubes are small, hollow, or the ice maker is slow?
That usually points to not enough water reaching the ice maker — a clogged water filter, low water pressure, a partly closed supply valve, or a water valve starting to fail. A freezer running warmer than it should can also slow ice production.
Water leaking or ice building up around the ice maker?
Ice buildup on the ice maker or bin, or water on the freezer floor, often means water is going where it shouldn't — for example a valve that doesn't fully close or a fill tube that isn't draining into the mold properly. Turn off the water supply to the unit to stop further buildup, and have it looked at before it damages the cabinetry around a built-in unit.
Both the ice maker and the freezer stopped working?
