Before: the LG WM3900HWA with its original door boot

Case Study · Washer Repair · Yarrow Point, WA
This LG front-load washer in a property-managed Yarrow Point home had a moldy door boot gasket. Once mold works into the folds of the boot, cleaning won’t get it out. The owner approved a replacement through the property manager, and we took the front of the washer apart and installed a new boot. Real photos from the job below.
What happened
The problem
The LG WM3900HWA front-loader in this vacant Yarrow Point home had mold growing in its door boot, the rubber gasket that seals the door to the tub. The property manager sent the work order, and the owner approved replacing the boot.
Why replace it
Surface mold on the lip of a boot can be wiped off. Here it had worked deep into the folds and ribs, where cleaning can’t reach. With the old boot out, you can see how much had built up inside.
The fix
On this LG, the boot comes out from the front. We removed the top panel, the control panel and the front panel, took off the old boot, fitted the new one to the tub and put the washer back together. The repair carries our 90-day warranty.

Light mold on the surface of the boot often wipes off. Once it has worked into the folds and the rubber itself is stained, cleaning won’t get it out and the boot needs replacing. On this LG, the mold was packed deep into the folds, so we replaced it.
